Today, at Plateau Anse Rouge a young Haitian lady was asked to describe what it meant to be poor. She said, "Someone who has no family, no place to live and is totally dependent one others to live". She was then asked, "Is anyone here on the Plateau poor?" Her response was, "No".
Jon and Anna the two interns from Millar College and I have been here in Haiti a little more than a week. The devastation in Port-au-Prince gripped us as we drove through the city. Select buildings totally flattened with bodies still inside them with little hope of life. But something that caught all our eyes was the life that we saw around us. Women selling goods on the streets and people getting back to living.
As the week has been filled with many emotions we can see that we have A LOT TO LEARN when it comes to helping people. We need God's perspective not our plans to be accomplished. But that takes time.
My dad was able to return to Port-au-Prince and assist in some very key areas. Giving help to leaders who we have a strong relationship with and know are able to help people in their communities. They will be returning here to the Plateau tomorrow and will share their report with you.
In His Grip,
Bonita
