since that day...

something to share...

It’s been two weeks since we got the call that we had a place with Missionary Flights International to go to Haiti. Dad and I had to move quick to get things ready and then to get Jon and Anna ready to go from Manitoba, Canada. Tickets were purchased at an amazing price and two days later we were on our flight ready to go to Haiti.


Seeing Haiti from the air only intensified the emotions we would soon be feeling when we landed. Lara Berry, our friend from California came with us to help my dad to some projects in Port. This is her fourth visit to Haiti and as we drove through Port it was hard to know what to say. Places that we knew so well gone...and knowing this place would never be the same again. The lives lost...mourning took on a new dimension.



Night in Port...
10PM we were all settled in for the night at my friends house in Port-au-Prince. They serve with a ministry that works all over Haiti but they also have a hospital that is being used at its full capacity. My Haiti cell phone rang. It was Sammy asking if I was alright. I guess there had been another aftershock felt in parts of the city. They have had these aftershocks still stun the nerves of those who walked through the earthquake.



Arrival to the Plateau...
It all seemed so unreal to get off that MAF plan and be able to touch Manis & Judy, little Anya, Ginger and then to see Sammy who had arrived the day before. I wasn’t sure to cry or what to do...so I did my usually laugh! Then later that day Dodo arrived by bus. Hearing their stories and all that they went through. Also them sharing what God has been doing in their lives now as a result of those past events on January 12th.



Jon and Anna...
What a JOY to have these two students here at this time. God truly has picked both these students for such a time as this. They are learning so much and learning to walk with the community here. Many of the Haitians have shared that they have seen good character in them and they are so happy to have them here. The church here on the Plateau had prayed just two days before we arrived in Haiti that God would make a way. AND HE DID!!! We are honoured to be a part of this community.



Joy and sorrow...
These past two weeks we have seen a lot. There are families coming from Port-au-Prince to take refugee. The little church here is very full on Sunday and we pray that hearts will be open to the message of Jesus. One of the ladies here on the Plateau has been experiencing a re-occurrence of Satanic control. As people come and pray with her and sing we are reminded once again that we are in a spiritual battle.



Dad and Lara return to Port... February 1-5
A week ago my dad and Lara returned to Port to work with our Lemuel Leaders and Mr. Armand Louis who is the director of a school in Port and a partner with Lemuel. Together they came up with a plan of what was needed in their communities and God did some amazing things to provide for those needs. Several communities were able to receive some much needed aid and our leaders where so overjoyed with what God was doing. When dad and Lara returned to the Plateau they were filled with rejoicing in all the great things that happened.



Prayer...in the midst of hardship...
While we are seeing great things happening here we have also been experiencing hardships. For Sammy, who is back in Port with his community, there has been some gang wars start up. He asks that we pray for wisdom as he and his committee seek ways to help. They are very exhausted with the physical battle they are facing but also the spiritual battle. We have also sensed the spiritual battle here on the Plateau. This weekend has been set apart for a NATION WIDE call to MOURNING, PRAYER and FASTING. Today the church here on the Plateau started to pray at 3AM. But as we pray the voodooist are also joining in on this nationwide event...and so we pray.



Staying cool...
I do hear that many of you in the NORTH are suffering for a lot of snow...but as you think of us here staying cool be encouraged that each time you pray with us God hears and is doing some AMAZING THINGS!!! We are grateful. Several of you are asking how my back is doing...IT’S GREAT!!! I have had very little pain. The only thing I am facing now is low blood sugar. I get tired very quickly and my energy is lacking greatly. This can be frustrating as I don’t like to miss anything but I pray for His strength and rest in that.
