her
eyes met Jesus face to face...
Wednesday,
December 19th our dear Anna Elgby went home to be with the LORD.
Anna
was in her third year of nursing school in Lethbridge, AB. She came home to her
parents place in Maryfield, SK for the holidays. Anna was really looking
forward to time with her parents and her two brothers over the holidays. Anna
had found some part time work at a nursing home and was driving home from work.
The roads were snowy and white out conditions brought Anna’s car into oncoming
traffic where she hit a pickup truck head on. She died instantly and the driver
of the other car was airlifted to the Regina hospital. His injuries are not
life threatening.
I
talked with Anna’s parents today on the phone. They shared with me how grateful
they were to have spent a wonderful week with Anna before she passed away. The
morning she died, Anna had spent time with each of them before going to work
that day.
2010
Haiti Internship
Being
here in Haiti, with so many people that were touched by Anna’s life, has really
touched my heart. January 2010 Anna Elgby and Jon Stitt spent 7 months
here on the Plateau of Haiti with Lemuel Ministries (www.lemuelministries.blogspot.com).
Anna’s time here left a mark. As God was showing Anna more of Himself and who
He created her to be, she immediately poured that into the people around her.
The family Anna lived with here in Haiti accepted her as part of their family.
Madam Robert would often comment how she loved the example she was to her girls
and that she conducted herself respectfully around her sons. Anna loved people
and she stayed in contact with the people here.
Enid...
Anna’s
desire to disciple young ladies drove her to build lasting relationship with
several girls. Enid was one relationship that has stayed strong to this day.
Just a few days before Anna died she called Enid. During the conversation Anna
shared about a discouragement she had and Enid reminded her of what she had
taught her...that we have a BIG GOD who is able to provide and protect. They
prayed with each other and Anna later shared with her parents what an
encouragement Enid was in her life.
In
her honour...
Anna’s
family have requested that memorial gifts be sent to Lemuel Ministries and to
help Enid finish school and get a good start in life. Donations can be sent to
Crossworld www.crossworld.org . If you
have further questions you can e-mail me or call the Crossworld office
1.905.238.0904.
I
miss Anna. God’s plan and purpose for here on this earth is done. She ran the
race well...and with great determination and focus. Her life left me with a
greater impression of how BIG our GOD is and his desire to see all his creation
in relationship with Him.
Thank
you for your love and prayers at this time. Tomorrow in the church here on the
Plateau we will spend time praying for Anna’s family and those who were
impacted by her life. Will you join us in prayer tomorrow. The funeral is
scheduled for December 27th. If you would like to share a word of
encouragement to her family you can e-mail them: Hans Elgby elgby@sasktel.net
Here
is a note from Anna’s parents:
Dear Friends,
We thank God for giving 24 years of life to our Anna. We gratefully accept that on December 19, 2012 in a traffic accident the Lord immediately ushered her into His Loving Presence for eternity. We know Anna is in heaven today because she admitted and repented of her sin and trusted God’s provision of cleansing through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Looking to God for His enabling we wait for the day when we can join Anna there in praise of our Savior for His wondrous grace.
A service to thank God for her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Kola Evangelical Mennonite Church (Kola, Manitoba), Interment at the Maryfield Cemetery and Luncheon to follow at the Maryfield Auditorium(Maryfield, Saskatchewan).
In Lieu of flowers donations could be made to ministries in Haiti which were so dear to Anna’s heart and to Millar College of the Bible where she studied for 4 years.
